OsoCozy Birdseye Flat Diapers - 3 Styles!

These diapers are made of soft 100% birdseye cotton and are 1 layer thick. Flats are one of two types of diapers that were around "back in the day," and experiencing a resurgence in popularity due to their versatility, fabulous washing and drying, longevity and ease of use. Each diaper weighs just over 3 oz., 25% heavier and thus more absorbent than any brands found in chain stores that we have sampled.

This is the original cloth diaper still used in Europe and many other countries. These are a one-size-fits-all diaper that requires folding to properly fit baby, and can be fastened either with pins or a Snappi. They are also popular when folded up and laid in a cover (no fastening required!). Because these diapers are only one layer thick, they dry quickly on your clothesline or in your dryer.  If you have patience and a pioneering spirit, using these diapers is by far the least expensive way to cloth diaper your baby.

These cloth diapers are also extremely popular as dish towels, for baby spills, burp cloths, lap pads, changing pads, bibs, and wash cloths. Folks love them for many non-baby related uses too, as rags for artists, mechanics, spas, house cleaning, window cleaning, and more!

Sizing

Unbleached Cotton: 27 x 30.5 in. before washing (designed so that the diapers shrink to a square)
Organic Unbleached Cotton: 27 x 30.5 in. before washing (shrink to approx. 26 x 26 in. square)
Bamboo/Organic Unbleached Cotton: 32 x 35 in. before washing (shrink to approx. 26 x 26 in. square)

Care

The big advantage to these diapers is that they are thin, and only one layer thick. This means that they wash nicely due to the fact that they are one layer and they can be line-dried or dried in a very short time in the dryer.

How to prepare for first use

For unbleached and organic flat diapers:
Because unbleached cotton retains its natural oil, it's important to remove this waxy outer fiber layer before using them for the first time.  We recommend washing them with hot sudsy water and drying them in the dryer at least three times before their first use. (That's wash - dry - wash - dry - wash - dry).  To test if they're ready to use, make a pocket in the diaper and pour half a cup of water into it.  If the water is not readily absorbed, then they should be washed and dried more.

We recommend washing your flats by themselves
during this break-in period.  This will reduce pilling and prevent the oils from the unbleached flats from coating other diapers, causing them to repel water, rather than absorb it.
