General Care
Wool soakers are so easy to care for! Wash your wool soaker every two weeks, or when soiled. Lanolize your soaker when it begins to loose absorbency, no more than once a month. All Baa-Baby wool soakers must be hand-washed and air dried!
Washing Always use a mild detergent specifically designed for washing wool (we recommend Northern Essence Liquid Wool Wash). Do not use Woolite, as it will remove the natural lanolin and dry the cover out. Gently rub the detergent into the wool cover, and let sit for up to 30 minutes. Then wash by squeezing in lukewarm water. Remove the excess water from the cover by rolling it in a towel, but do not rinse. Place it on a flat, well-ventilated surface to dry.
NEVER wash with harsh detergents. These will remove the necessary lanolin from your soaker, making it stiff and unabsorbent. NEVER machine wash your soakers. Washing machines, even on a delicate cycle, are too rough on knitted fabrics. NEVER dry soakers by placing in the dryer, on the clothesline, or anywhere near a source of heat. As wool is a natural fiber, heat causes wool to shrink, and your soaker will no longer fit properly, if at all.
Lanolizing Submerge the cover in a sink full of lukewarm water with the inside facing up. Take 1/2 teaspoon of lanolin, 1 teaspoon of your favorite baby soap, and place both in 1/2-1 cup of water and microwave until the lanolin is runny (30-90 seconds). Now shake the mixture until it becomes a milky white color. If there are still visible globs of lanolin in the mixture, add more baby soap and shake again until the lanolin is completely emulsified and the mixture is milky white. Pour over your cover. Swish the cover around in the water, let it soak for 20-30 minutes, roll in towel to dry, squeeze out excess moisture, but do not rinse. Hang or lay flat until dry.
The inside of the cover will be sticky to the touch for the first day or so.
How much lanolin you add depends on how long you want to go before relanolizing. The more lanolin you add (up to 1 1/2 teaspoons), the more sticky the cover will be, but the longer it will repel liquids.
Wool Wash Bar Use a wool wash bar to clean off messes from your wool cover instead of washing. Just lay flat to dry.
