What makes Soft Star Dorado Classic Shoes so popular:
- Soft Rubber soles
- Convenient Velcro strap
- Handcrafted in USA from premium, formaldehyde-free leathers
- Perfect for fall, winter or occasions where you want a closed shoe to keep out sand or dirt
- All Sizes have Sof-TouchTM soling-- a soft protective rubber sole. Soles for sizes 4-7 are low profile, to ease the transition from a moccasin style to a soled shoe. Soles for sizes 8-13 are slightly thicker to support the heavier weight of growing children
|
The patent pending Sof-TouchTM sole is low profile and non-skid to minimize trips when little ones are getting the hang of walking and running. These soles are durable and provide plenty of protection from outdoor elements. The Sof-TouchTMsole makes a very nice first shoe for your toddler.

Sizing

METHOD: Mark Length / Width
The easiest and fastest method is to stand full weight on a piece of paper, and with a pencil straight up and down to the floor mark your heel and your longest toe. Use these measurements to select the correct size on the Foot Length-to-Shoe Size chart below. If you have hard-to-fit feet, also measure widest width and your instep and provide these measurements for us in the comment section. A couple of pointers:
|
DO... |
PLEASE DON'T... |
DO use a pen / pencil
DO hold pen/pencil straight up and down alongside toe or heel, and also mark width.
DO measure the longest length between your toe and heel, and widest width of foot.
If measuring your own feet, DO have someone else help so you get a true "full weight" measurement |
DON'T use a fat marker
DON'T try to go under heel to where it touches the paper
DON'T stand on a ruler and eyeball it
DON'T hold a cloth measuring tape to bottom of foot
DON'T bend over to mark your own feet |
Foot Length-to-Shoe Size Conversion Chart
Note: Sandals tend to fit large due to bare feet. In fleece boots, if in doubt, go up a size.
To measure instep, you need a cloth measuring tape, and you wrap it around where the highest "arch" of the foot would be. (But kids ususally don't have arches... so just the fattest part of their little patty :-)

Care & Content

General Care
Smooth leather moccasins or rubber-soled Shoes can be surface cleaned and treated with any standard leather cleaning or protective product. Soft Star recommends Bee Natural Leather Amore for cleaning, or Rain & Snow for waterproofing. Suede moccasins or shoes can be surface bristle brushed.
All leather or suede shoes and moccasins look and feel best when left unwashed, but for those occasions where washing is necessary, they can be hand washed in cool water, or in the machine on delicate cycle with cold water using extremely mild soap. We recommend hand washing. You can use a soft brush to scrub the suede. It is best to use detergents made especially for sheepskin or leather that will not strip away the natural oils, or a high quality moisturizing hair shampoo. Soft Star highly recommends the Kookaburra Woolwash. Using a harsh soap will dry the suede and damage it. Do not mix in any other clothing as the dyes may bleed. Air dry. The shoes may feel a little stiff at first, but should become soft again with wear. The colors will fade with washing. |

FAQ
Do you really make the shoes? Answer: Yes! Our workshop is in Corvallis, Oregon and our crew of elves makes each pair from scratch, including the soft soles. This allows us to design to your custom specifications, if you like.
Why can't I just order my child's current shoe size? Answer: In order for you to avoid the hassle of having to return wrong-sized shoes, we do not recommend this. There are many different shoe sizing standards in the U.S., and each shoe manufacturer sizes are slightly different from the next. As we custom make each pair of shoes for your child, we really appreciate it when you take the time to measure his or her foot before placing your order. You will be happier too, we promise!
My child's new shoes have stained her feet. Are the dyes safe? How do we get it off? Answer: All dyes used in Soft Star Shoes are non-toxic and approved by the FDA. It is normal for some of the brighter colors to rub off onto socks or bare feet, and it is completely safe. Stains will wear off naturally in a few days. All of our leathers come from US based tanneries, which have stringent rules and regulations for safety and environmental standards. No Formaldehyde is used in the tanning of our leathers (not the case with many imported leathers and shoes - a quick whiff of our shoes vs. other brands will illustrate this). If you are concerned about color spread, consider choosing the smooth leathers vs. suede.
