General Care
Caring for wool is really easy. It doesn’t retain odor and the
covers can be used for 2-3 weeks between washes, unless soiled. Simply
air-dry by turning inside out in between uses.
Washing/drying:
Simply soak the cover in cold water for 15 minutes with wool wash
detergent (like Eucalan). Do not scrub or agitate. Lay flat to dry
(after rolling in a towel and gently squeezing to remove excess water).
For stain removal, lay flat in the sun.
Washing Hand
wash with lukewarm water and a tablespoon of Sudz-n-Dudz wool wash.
Let sit for up to thirty minutes. Remove from water, roll in towel to
dry, squeeze out excess moisture, but do not rinse! Hang or lay flat
to dry. Do not rub or wring.
Lanolizing Submerge
the cover, inside out, in a sink full of lukewarm water. Take 1/2
teaspoon of lanolin, 1 teaspoon of your favorite baby soap, and place
both in 1/2-1 cup of water and microwave until the lanolin is runny
(30-90 seconds). Now shake the mixture until it becomes a milky white
color. If there are still visible globs of lanolin in the mixture, add
more baby soap and shake again until the lanolin is completely
emulsified and the mixture is milky white. Pour over your cover. Swish
the cover around in the water, let it soak for 20-30 minutes, roll in
towel to dry, squeeze out excess moisture, but do not rinse. Hang or
lay flat until dry.
The inside of the cover will be sticky to the touch for the first day or so.
How
much lanolin you add depends on how long you want to go before
relanolizing. The more lanolin you add (up to 1 1/2 teaspoons), the
more sticky the cover will be, but the longer it will repel liquids.
Wool Wash Bar Use a wool wash bar to clean off messes from your wool cover instead of washing. Just hang dry.
How to prepare for first use
Wool covers should be washed and then lanolized before their first use. See directions above.
